worm castings w/coir and verm

in order to use worm castings as a substrate i read that you need to add verm and coir. Are both necessary or will one or the other work?What ratios are best? Also, do i need to sterilize the coir verm before adding it to the castings for pasteurization? Thanks guys.

You can make a casing with just verm or coir. But then again, you can make a casing with just about anything...doesn't mean you'll be successful. :smile: Usually people add worm castings to something else like poo, but hay, why not try it. and yea weather you use one or 2, they do need to be sterilized. You can do it in your oven.

Eyeball some worm castings. you will note - they are very fine, like dirt. They have a tendency to turn to MUD, when you add water.

Adding Verm & coir gives them more of a loamy fiber texture.

I'm not a fan of worm castings.

H/poo - beats them out - hands down.

If you use 50% castings to 50% verm pasterized in foil at 170degrees you have unbelievable results! I guarentee it.

Id do 50/50 verm/coir, and mix that mix 50/50 with the worm castings. That is, if I didnt get horse poo instead..
