Food Dehydrator out of Season??
    #4450779 - 07/25/05 02:10 PM (18 years, 7 months ago)

So I go to my local walmart yesterday to pick up an american harvest dehydrator with the temp control. Only to be told that dehydrators are out of season! I diddnt know kitchen appliances can go out of season. The K-mart did not have any either. Anyone know why this is?

Secondly. When I DO find the dehydrator in stock, can I just put my freshies in there to substitute for fanning and dampridding? ...Or do I still have to fan before dehydrating?

Thanks

lol looks like you got fooled by a genius walmart employee. Motherfuckers are so lazy they'll tell you coca cola is out of season if they dont know where it is. I bought my dehydrator on sat of this week at wally world. Check again, it will be in the aisle with the fryers/crockpots/coffeemakers.

hahaha. Naw I looked very hard for it. Went through every single kitchen appliance they had. With the crock pots, and rice makers, blenders etc... They just diddnt have any in that particular one I'm sure. Ill check the one on the other side of town.

got an answer for my second question?

once i went to get a link taken out of a watch. the girl told me their link removal tool was broke. they broke a mini-screwdriver? anyway, damprid, fanning and dehydrators aren't neccacary. shrooms will dry on their own. just leave some out on a clean surface. i just put em on foil on a closet shelf. the last ones i dehydrated have not gone bad yet and they lasted long enough for me to grow more.

oh yah, you can just place em in right after picking.  Took me about 8 hrs to cracker dry my fruits.  37.7 gms wet to 4.1 gms dry.  But they were a bit on the small side because i harvested a day or two early, it can take up to 24 hrs to dry em out if they're large.  Its a good investment tho, no mess, very quiet, and effective.  GL finding one, i live in the land of walmart theres a different one every 5 miles

Save yourself some cash, and do what a friend of mine does. He lays down newspaper on a small table in the same room as his water heater. His fruit goes from fresh to cracker dry in about 48 hours.

Get a dehydrator.

They are set it & forget it simple & work perfectly.

Under some conditions you MIGHT get shrooms fairly dry, just setting them out & using a fan or sunlight to dry them.

A dehydrator does it RIGHT - EVERY TIME.

they should be coming in to season, so walmart is stocking them, harvesting and hunting season is about here.

I'd say an American Harvester dehydrator is a good investment. It definitely dries shrooms quickly and thoroughly, much better and faster than other methods I've tried. I got my online. Try a PriceGrabber.com or MySimon.com search to find the best price. I got mine at StuffOnline.com. Smaller shrooms are cracker dry in a few hours, and larger ones within 24 hours. No need to rotate trays because of the special fan design.
