the 60/40 and 50/50+ teks seem to be the most popular for casings. everyone will tell you to find some horse manure to spawn. WBS alone isn't very nutrious.

i was thinking of using 50/50+. is WBS more nutritious than BRF jars at least?

probably, but I'm not expert. BRF cakes have the advantage of vermiculite in the cake to hold moisture. Look around for some posts about mixing moist verm with the colonized WBS and then adding a casing layer.

Try to make your substrate layer as thick as possible, helps a lot.

I made my substrate depth like 4" and had worse results than with a 2" sub depth with WBS. It just got contams earlier. I found it better to use two smaller pans rather than one deep one. That is when I used just WBS, no poop.
