I lost one of my contacts and it was my only one left
    #4400375 - 07/13/05 03:43 PM (18 years, 8 months ago)

so now I'm blind in one eye.  I was putting it in, I blinked, and then I realized that it had disappeared. I'm wondering if it was even on my finger at all, but it is nowhere to be found.  I looked for it everywhere and when I couldn't find it I decided to cry.  I HATE being depedant on a tiny piece of plastic just to function, it's hell.  It makes me feel so helpless.  I'm about to start crying again about it.

My husband is trying to help me see the bright side.  I still have one contact in, and we're going to see an eye doctor tomorrow.

But still.  I have to walk around half-blind the rest of the day.  I can't drive, I can't hardly read (writing this post has been a chore) and it's like I'm an invalid now...

Plus the knowledge that if I was in the olden days before contacts or glasses were invented it would probably be best for my parents to give me over to the wolves.  Children who are pretty much blind weren't good for much in those days.  I would throw myself to the wolves personally if I knew were some existed around here, I'm so upset that I lost that little contact.

I'm making a huge deal about this but I don't care, I can't see!

Plus I'm out of weed, to add insult to injury.  :frown:

Haha I totally see where you're coming from. I wear soft contacts as well. They're a damn pain and a half, but I don't like wearing my glasses so I usually put in my contacts. Those stupid little pieces of plastic are always ripping, or getting dirty and scratched. The ones I wear are supposed to be good for about a week, then I have to change them. But I must go through 2-3 pairs in that time.

I need to get laser eye surgery :undecided:

Don't I know it.  :frown:  Here I am, a human, supposedly the most advanced species on the planet, and I can't do shit because I lost my precious plastic.

It's humbling and I don't like it.

I've dropped mine so many times but I always managed to find them. I had a very bad eye infection a long time ago because I would always fall asleep in them and it messed up my eyes. Now I can't wear them for more than 12 hours without them bothering me.

When I had that eye infection, I had no glasses to substitute with so I had to survive with my eyes closed for a few days, and a wet cloth on them. I finally got a pair of glasses to wear when I don't have them in but I hate them because I can't stand my peripheral vision being all blurry.

Laser surgery is next on my list.

my friend lost 1 contact while he was tripping in the woods.. he said he really couldnt tell the difference, cause everything was moving and blurring out in both eyes

dont they have those contacts that 'breath" now.. so they can last like several weeks without having to take them out?

Yeah they do but for my prescription, it would cost me $400 for a year supply, as opposed to $160. It is worth it though.

To be honest with you why sweat something so small. Shit happens, theres more serious shit going on all around us. Dont be dependent on something that is so small in the scheme of things. Learn from it, see what it feels to be blind for a day, so you can see what thousands of people go through everyday. I dont know just ranting. I personally wear contacts to and yes I lose them all the time and their not the cheap kind, some kind of high torque or something for stigmatism.

Haha, it's okay.  I, too, have been defeated by these half-inch pieces of plastic.  On more than one occasion.  *Cough*

Yes, they do, but my prescription is too high!  They don't make them high enough prescription for my eyes.  :frown:

I know laser surgury would fix things...my aunt has the same type of eyesight I do (monstrously bad) and she got laser surgury and can see pretty good now.

It just sucks because I know if I got lost in the wilderness with contacts in my eyes, I wouldn't be able to survive.

haha i thought you meant drug contacts

i'm blind as hell (-7.5 in both eyes), and live constantly in fear of losing my contacts or glasses while fucked up in the city. actually almost all of my nightmares somehow involve me not having my contacts or glasses. i've often wondered what would have happened to a person like me in, say, the middle ages... i'd have literally been quite useless!

Yes, EXACTLY, I know what you mean.  My eyes are 6.5 in my right eye, 7.5 in my left eye.  I have dreams in which I am trying to put a contact in my eye but it won't go in...and I spend the entire dream trying to put this HUGE (like the size of a washcloth) contact in my eye...it's really uncomfortable to be haunted by your contacts even in your dream!

I'm something like -3.50 in one and -4.00 in the other, with a stigmatism.

Daaaaamn. I'm -2.25 and -2.75, and I thought that was bad. Then again, I inherited the genes from my dad who used to wear inch-thick glasses (not literally but close enough) before he got into hard contacts, which sucked. Finally went for the lazer surgery, and now he can see fine but needs glasses to read.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.  :frown:

I don't trust myself so I wear disposables and have a backup pair of glasses.  I even take an extra pair of disposables with me when I travel.

Good luck getting a new lens!

I can't wear just one contact... I get a splitting headache after about ten minutes or so.

I think I would just get an eyepatch if I were you.
