this is a pm I sent to Wiccan_Seeker (reposted w/ permission) _____________________________________________________ I believe I read in some posts that you have a heart problem and still dose LSD from time to time
I suffer from a aortic valve insuffiency that causes a slight murmer (very slight)
I myself have been tripping LSD since 1991
I've never had any ill affects from it
but, during a recent surgery (back in november of last year) I was coming out of anastesia(sp?) in the recovery room and my heart fell out of rhythm, this happed for mabey an hour until they used a beta blocker and it got everything back to normal.
I had tests at the hospital and wore a heat monitor for a day to make sure no damage had occoured (no damage was detected)
I went to my heart doc and he assures me that I'm fine and that my heart rate only went up to about 160 to 200 beats per minute during the time it was out of rhythm.
I have tripped once since my surgery and had no ill affects just alot of anxiety which I used xanax to control.
my question to you is what is your condition? does it increase your risk for heart atttack? (My doc says mine does not really increase my rick for heart attack) has tripping given you any ill affects? how much do you trip? (i only trip like 4 times a year now)
I've read so much about LSD over the years some sources say it slightly increases heart rate and BP some say it does not affect heart rate and BP what do you think????
thanks for your time I know we've never really chatted but I respect your opinion.
---Joe

I would also like anyone elses opinion on this subject.
I've read so much literature about LSD since I started getting involved with in in 91' but, I cannot get a clear answer from a creditable source on the increased hear rate and BP issues.
I read this post http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/4376667/an/0/page/0 but, it does not give any links or sources

There are over 50 kinds of heart disease. The factor that precipitated my heart attack was coronary vasospasm secondary to the unusual form of my coronary arteries.
I have no clots or plaques - my heart is healthy and so are my coronary arteries, but the latter may constrict at any given time (independent of excercise) causing a cardiac oxygen shortage leading to Angina Pectoris and in its worst case, Myocardial Infarction. (heart attack) I'm probably also susceptible to lethal rhythm disturbances. Needless to say I'm quite drugged up on heart pharms.
Dr Stanislav Grof in his book LSD PSYCHOTHERAPY is clear that people with cardiovascular problems ought not to ingest LSD. Period.
This is not as much due to specific action, but LSD (and mushrooms) often involve extreme emotions and these are associated with all sorts of unwanted cardiovascular effects: blood pressure fluctuations, rapid heartbeats and massive adrenalin release. It somewhat elevates resting heart rate but the risk is entirely trivial compared to the bodily effects of the intense emotions LSD brings about. So it is an indirect effect, but a very real one.
I indeed am at a somewhat elevated risk (compared to my sober state) of getting an LSD/Mushrooms induced heart attack. Life is all about risk-taking. I know I'm taking a risk of injury or death by taking psychedelics, but in this knowledge have chosen to take them nontheless.
I trip about 2-8x a year.

thats quite a misadventure. I must ask you to strongly reconsider your use of psychedelics by default, and then act accordingly.
You might be at elevated risk. Aortic valve insufficiency and rhythm disturbances sounds a bit like if you whack your heart hard enough it might lose the beat. The worst arhythmia is Fibrillation, which is the leading cause of death resulting from just about anything we humans die of. It is important to know what extreme emotions and adrenalin rushes will do with your heart. It's a reasonable predictor for your compatibility with LSD.
If you decide to go for psychedelics I recommend you to not take any others than LSD and Mushrooms. These are the least toxic ones by themselves.

I strongly feel that the reason my heart fell out of rhythm was that I was in the hospital for a gunshot wound to my hand that they didn't do surgery on for 6 days (to see what tissue lived and died) so I was in the hospital,on demarol and morphine for pain for 6 days I really couldn't eat a thing since the meds made me sick and I was freaking out about my fingers getting fucked up. and the meds making me very sick and I was having panic attacks in the hospital already due to the overwhelming stress of all the trama, the meds,no food, upcoming surgery.
then I get put under anastesia
I just don't think my body could take it at the time and freaked
all of this being said I also have kidney stones I had an attack about a month after my gunshot surgery I went to see my urologist and they wanted to put me back under anastesia to do a lithotripy I asked my heart doc about it and he said it was fine that I'd have no problems with anything and what happed to me with the other surgery was nothing to worry about.
i haven't had the lithotripsy yet I'm apprehensive about being put to sleep again but,I have to bite the bullet soon I also need another finger surgery so I have to bite the bullet twice.
I've had a few surgerys in my life before the gunshot and never had a problem with anastesia before. but I fear anastesia fucking me up much more than I fear LSD could or getting panicked by LSD could.
and since my heart doc seems to think I can be put to sleep so soon after my rhythm accident that, I'm not really worried about another rhythm accident happening out of the blue and just kinda worried about it happening during a trip.
btw,I 'm typing this as I come down off an LSD trip. It was nice a few panic moments that died out in a matter of minutes, but nothing scary at all.
I did eat 2 .25 xanax during the trip
1 was taken an hour before I dosed to relieve my anxiety and then split one pill and ate half during the peak then ate the other half a little later.
I think I'm going to take another trip really soon. this one did alot for me and I think the next one will to.
