reading some stories of his
great stuff
such a pessimistic attitude toward the mind
for example, how everyone's going crazy when they glimpse the secrets of the universe
and all those "alien geometries".. dude's stories are one long bad trip

anyone else dig his books?

I LOVE Lovecraft. Amazing writer. Some of the endings of his stories are jawdropping. I also love his style of rambling on and on, describing details perfectly.

And you're right, some of his stuff is definitley reminding of a bad trip.

Was my favorite author circa 1996. Check out the novel Hypnos for some trippy shit..

Read it here...

when you're watching television the higher brain regions (like the midbrain and the neo-cortex) are shut down, and most activity shifts to the lower brain regions (like the limbic system). The right hemisphere is twice as active as the left, a neurological anomaly. The crossover from left to right releases a surge of the body?s natural opiates: endorphins, which include beta-endorphins and enkephalins. Endorphins are structurally identical to opium and its derivatives (morphine, codeine, heroin, etc.).After just 30 seconds of watching television the brain begins to produce alpha waves, which indicates torpid (almost comatose) rates of activity.

I have most of his works, great stuff.

You should really look into Brian Lumley's "Titus Crow" series. Lumley is a big fan of Lovecraft and this series is set in a more modern Cthulu Mythos world. I really enjoyed it.

Any of you know the title of his story (I believe it is a short story), where the protaganist sets himself on fire on a pier? I read it a long time ago, and have been wanting to re-read it, but can't remember what it was called...

The only Lovecraft I've read is the story "At the Mountains of Madness" and it was about an expedition to a range of mountains in Antactica which has some menacing eveil beings still inhabiting their ancient structures. Freaked me out good... an excellent story.

I am intrigued by the Cthulu Mythos.... What are some other good Lovecraft books/stories to get started on?

Dagon and other Macabre Tales. The Haunter of The Dark.

Heres a bibliography list. Try and get yourself omnibus's.

I love his work too! Check out "At the Mountains of Madness", if you get a chance and haven't already. I think it's one of his best works....
