People check it out. This could be one of the most important developments in the media. Finally good, independant, diverse world media.

They are already well on their way. I would love to see a news outlet that is not instructed by corps or governments on what to do. Also they would have world news and not only American news. Or mostly European news like we have in Europe.

Well, since the USA is obviously guilty for everything bad that happens, does this really surprise you? (sarcasm for the dry-humor impaired)
I would love to see a independent media outlet, but I fear that even if one could be made, that it would fall victim to the same thing that eventually kills all honest media... greed... How long before we simply have another CNN?

Could you elaborate, please? How would greed affect a non-profit media organization that lives on a mass of small donators, without any advertising or subsidies? How much more independent can one get?

Indeed this is an non-profit organisation, NPO's are as hard to corrupt as The Shroomery or Erowid. But the Shroomery already has advertising banners...

Not easily... there is more to greed than money. Everybody has their own special interests at heart... even if the reporters hold to journalistic ethics, I can see (once I don my tinfoil hat) outside factors trying to influence the reporting... everything from CIAs and KGBs to lawyers, lobbists, etc... Perhaps I am being overly paranoid, but the media holds too much power for the real powers that be to allow an uncontrolled media outlet to exist.

Well at least, by refusing corporate and taxpayers' money, they'll start off much healthier than anything similar currently known to the average media consumer...

I hope it fails.
The 98-member IWT advisory committee reads like a who?s who of progressive left activism and journalism, especially from the US. The list includes Lewis Lapham of Harper?s Magazine, Gore Vidal, Jeff Cohen, Laura Flanders and Janine Jackson from Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting, Amy Goodman of Democracy Now, and Janeane Garofalo of Air America.

Well there are mostly lefties doing it because most republicans think TV is fine the way it is. They like the news because it's mostly supports them. At least Fox and a few other big ones do.
