i was doing some "cooking" last night and i was wondering what happens if the poo is exposed to heat of 190F.is it worthless because of the beneficial bacteria dieing or is it still fine to use?

It is not recommended to go over 180F for exactly that reason. Bacteria may die. I'll bet there is someone out there who has done it though. I personally don't waste time even pasteurizing anymore. I simply hydrate my manure and go right into spawning.
Ask Diver, he'll tell you. It works fine.

really... I've been looking for a way to speed up my production time. If i can spawn without pasteurizing that would be killer.

I think your shrooms will still grow tall if the poo is sterilized. don't quote me though. I'll experiment with sterilized poo and compare it to pasteurized poo

sterilized
Not trying to be a dick but that's the stupid-est idea EVER.
It's well know that FF HELPS mycelium growth in poo and straw. Sterilization kills this beneficial bacteria
You might want to re-think that idea.

That sounds good to me. Do you have to put in a higher ratio of spawn to avoid contams using that method? Or does it just seem to work well regardless? I have poo ready to go, but I really hate the pasturization process and I don't care what people say about the poo not smelling. It's not a strong smell, but it does smell. It's still shit, afterall. I'm married and my wife doesn't share my enthusiasm for my experiments or care for the barn-like smell created when I'm pasturizing, so avoiding the process is a big

I hear ya buddy... I just burn incense to cover the smell(more like to avoid the bitching usually take four sticks all at the same time).
Oh yeah to IG~ I wasn't asking if it would be better or even as an idea to do it, my problem is I had a lot of "shit" i was doing at the same time and a bag got up to 195F. i ended up using it anyway, just wanted to know the consequences for my action. i'll try the non pasteurization tek tonight with 8 quarts of south american. i'll report back in a few weeks with pics.

Doesn't mess up every time, (over pasturization)...
And If you've got poo sitting in the hot ass flordian sun, you don't really have to really worry about anything...IME...
Gotta love that hot fucking sun

it should still colonize... shouldn't it?!? i mean it won't have the same advantages as the poo with the firefang but it's practically shredded straw. (i'm hoping)

The firefang isnt the problem I dont think...although if the water got that high for only a few, the poo might not have heated up that much...I've let the temps get high for a few minutes...but it was short time, not free water pasteurizing (in oven bags in the water) and corrected quickly, whenever it happened..I dont think it really allowed the poo to heat up that fast..I dont know if your doing it the pillowcase method though, if its all in the water, and the water gets that hot, the poo may have as well..in that case you may be screwed.
I think everyones saying throw it out because poo is free and they got lots...spawn takes time and work, and a bit of money..so I guess its up to you on which you got more of..

i've been useing the oven bag method and my oven for pasteurization. I really hate the idea of it but i guess i can afford to lose 1 bin. (knock on wood) we'll see how it turns out.

its probably just a matter of time til gnats invading your grow.
this time of year gnats will start being a problem...especially if you don't pastuerize your horse poo.
hope you don't get any...they are a real biotch!~
