Blood pressure / pulse
    #4324110 - 06/22/05 09:18 AM (18 years, 9 months ago)

I checked my blood pressure / pulse the other day to see how I was doing since I had stopped drinking.

I took a nap and then got up walked around for a little bit, talked to a neighbor and then went to the store to use the machine.

I had a 120/90 with a pulse of 51. Is it normal to have such a low pulse? From everything I've read an average resting pulse is 60-90 while a sleeping person can have a pulse in the 40's. Since my resting pulse was 51 I can only imagine that my pulse while asleep is in the low 40's to high 30's.

It depends. Some athletes can have a below normal pulse rate and be okay. It would only be a problem if you experience chronic tiredness all the time. If so, you should get that checked out. By the way, that's a great systolic pressure, although your diastolic pressure is a bit high.....

Hmm it might have been 80. Whatever the Average range is I was towards the top end.

I wouldn't say I'm chronically tired but I definitely have a lower energy level than other people. What could chronic tiredness indicate?

If it was 80, that's okay. 90 is considered "mildly high" with the new revised standards.
As I recall, a lower pulse rate can be caused by an underactive thyroid, amongst other things. If you have low energy, perhaps you should have that looked at....
