i admit it would be better to PC them, but when they come out they are full of water, i have to open them and pour out water making a huge mess... can't i simply sterilize them in the oven (how much time and at what temp?) or wash them with bleach?

After you use them, simply wash with soap and water for storage. Then when you go to use it, clean the inside of the dish and lid with alcohol in a gloove box.

hotnutz: how much experience do you actually have with this method? tried, tested, and true?
lepiota: i have been putting another screen thing i had lying around in the PC to keep the dishes out of the water.. i also use reusable autoclavable plastic bags to keep them all together though if you had a dish rack you wouldnt need this... im guessing just using anything to keep them up out of the water would be fine for the water issues

I sterilize my petri dishes in a old tattoo dri-clave.
One of my buddies is a tattoo artist and had an old one laying around collecting dust. So he gave it to me...for good use.
these pictures are from one thats for sale on Ebay... its the same as mine.
the one on Ebay is going for $50.00 right now...btw
I sterilize alot of things in the dry-clave.

I just got done isolating B+ and an unknown strain. I pressure cooked my petri dishes and they got that same condensation on the inside. I used them anyway and didn't have much of a problem. Of course some got contaminated, but they were grown from unsterilized dried caps.

i think my petri dishes would melt into an ooey gooey mess if i pced them. i just microwave them for a couple minutes and wipe with alcohol. only a couple contams so far, and those were from dirty transfers.
