Best tripping album of the new century
    #428287 - 10/17/01 08:48 AM (22 years, 5 months ago)

Ahhhhh, the results are finally in. Shpongle- Tales of the Inexpressible is the most beautiful album created by man and machine. I use the word "beautiful" because this album is self proclaimed "visual music." If you don't know what visual music is (as I didn't), then you should give it a listen and it will become clear.

For all of those doubters who thought Simon and Raja couldn't comet correct like they have in the past, give this one a chance. My life makes a little more sense from having heard it.

The song with Terence McKenna talking about the aliens of tripping-space is especially enlightening. Now I finally know the REAL source of hallucinations.

Well, actually, Shpongle's music doesn't really fit into a category. This album is like a GOA/intellegent breaks/salsa/jazz/acoustic/progressive trance/experimental/toobular boobular joy. Let's just say that the more you try to define what exactly it is, the less close you are.

Perhaps the gist is best expressed in this excerpt from the sleeve notes:

"Like the Universe is sitting on your face,
Plugged into Gaia's Brain, in a Wyrd dripping Cavernous Labyrinth
Following the String of Semi-Madness
Brain Gymnastics, Sonic Elastics, Frying the Mind Circuits

The Psychedelic Circus is in town
Shamans, Pagans, Pixies and Elves, Wizards, Lizards, Physicians and Magicians
Visible Language, Visual Music, the Carnival of the Divine imagination"

Yup, I couldn't have said it better myself

It's definitely on a different wavelength then 'Are You Shpongled?', I personally prefer 'AIS?', but 'TOTI' is also momentously reverberating the vibrations of divination.

That is cool that you feel this album so much. Personally, the beats are a little too drum-machinish for my taste. I'm not much of a fan of that sound.

I heard this album the other night in some kids dorm room while we were getting blazed and I just kept thinking about how dope it might sound if the guys who made this did an ambient album. You seem to know em, so I though I'd ask.

Hey man, that site may have been old, but I liked it anyway. I've never read that interview with Simon before, and though it was short, it was a good read.

Also, I would like to say that yes, I do believe the new album is better than Are You Shpongled?, but not by much. The only reason I would say I like it more is due to its unbelievably complex and diverse musical composition. The best way I can put it is that some frequencies and combinations of frequencies beat in perfect synchronization with my synapses. Whenever I encounter this synchronization, my brain is instantly connected to the sound in a way that is more than just hearing it. It's kind of like it goes from just being a simple sensory stimulus to linking my consciousness with a universe composed soley of sound.

Anyway, Tales of the Inexpressible has more of these sounds than any album I've ever heard, often 4 or 5 at a time. When these frequencies emerge from the ambience, I can't help let my brain slip into this altered state of consciousness. I fucking love that.
