IMO the best thing about gmail is the space. I got my gamil account a while back with a gig of storage. Now I have 2307 MB of storage (how they arrives at that amount I don't know).

In general, of the web-based emails I've used gmail is much "cleaner", and generally easier on the eyes. Theres not pictures, advertisements, etc. When I look at all the crap I see just logging in to hotmail I want to make out with my gmail account.

In addition there are a lot of smaller features which I don't use since I don't get 300 emails a day. If I used a lot of email I'd probably take advantage of: a search option, the way it displays the first few lines of an email (like a web page "hit"), the way emails are divided into "conversations" for repeated replies back and forth.
And from what I hear, the junk mail filter actually works (though I've managed to keep it 100% clean as of right now). Do a search and a lot of other stuff comes up. GO for it, it's free.
