i'm on my first grow attempt right now and have 4 brf/verm cakes in the fruiting chamber. They have been in there for 4 days, i'm using a layer of wet perlite for humidity and saran wrap for the terranium lid. At the bottom of one of my cakes (that i dunked but didn't roll) there is really fluffy white growth, it almost looks like cotton. The growth is at the very bottom near the lid that the cake rests on. Is this cobweb mold or is this just fluffy mycelium? How can you tell the difference between the two? It seems to be the same color as the mycelium and the cake was fully colonized by the way. i would really appreciate your opinions. Thanks

It's hard to say without a pic. If you take a bottle of 3% H202 and apply your spray nozzle from your misting bottle, it doesn't even have to fit. Just stick the wick into the H202 bottle. Then mist the spot once or twice. If it's cobweb it'll get rid of it instantly. If it's not, the cake will keep on truckin to fruit. H202 is hydrogen peroxide if you're not familiar with it.

Easy.
If it's... -sticking Striaght up. -Looks thin -Looks like tiny hairs -And "melts" when water/h202 is sprayed on it...
Then it's cobweb...

yeah, a pic would deffinetly help but i have no digital camera, i really need to invest in one. So hydrogen peroxide will kill cobweb mold and wont harm the mycelium?

Kills it dead fast. But don't over do the spray. Just 1-2 shots. That minimal of an amount won't hurt the cakes mycelium.

A pic would help. Use to think my cake had cobweb but it was myc getting fuzzy. The hole cake did this. If only the base is doing this, it might be cobweb. You can spray 10% h2o2/90% water. This will knox down cobweb. If myc, itwill only slow it a bit. GL

Kinda more of a nuisance. How fast is it spreading? If it's cob web, it will spread like wild fire. If not, it isn't.

After dunking a cake, you can roll it in vermiculite. Helps to provide the cake with moisture.

well it looks like it was cobweb mold It matched everything that IGnostic said so i sprayed it with 3% h202 and it melted away. It is almost completely gone but there is a tiny bit of it left but it's soaked in h2o2. I birthed my cakes on to the lids I had used for the jars during inoculation and only washed them with hot water, do you think this is the reason for the cobweb mold? I moved them to new sterile lids after i sprayed w/ h2o2. Do i have to worry about it comming back again? And most important will cobweb mold harm my cakes and shrooms at all, or is it just a nuisence like hippychick said? And when i said "dunked but not rolled" i meant that i dunked the cake in cold water for about 20 hours but i didn't roll it in damp vermiculite, i wanted to compare the flush to another cake that i dunked and did roll in vermiculite, hopefully this cobweb mold won't keep me from comparing results.
