Psilocybe semilanceata - indoor cultivation * 7
    #4248496 - 06/02/05 02:32 PM (18 years, 9 months ago)

Psilocybe semilanceata - Indoor attempt.

Original wild specimen collected in Oct. 2004. I cloned this one because it was very white and unique.

Grass seed spawn of above clone was mixed with sterilized horse manure and placed in a microbox with filtered lid. A small amount of pasturized casing was added after full colonization.

Pins developing. It is hard to get a decent photo but you should be able to see them. Fruiting is at 58F and hyphal knots are everywhere, even in uncased areas. Sorry this post is so brief, I ran out of time. I'll beef it up early next week.

Very nice. I have only seen one picture of semi's growing indoors before. I might try cloning myself when they are up in a few months. I usually get them from a field with sheep so I suppose when I pick them I could collect some sheep manure too.

christ on a bike. i know if anyone can do it, you'll be the one - the only pic i ever saw was in Stamets of some libcaps in a conical flask. if it hadn't been Stamets, i'd have accused it of being a faked pic. i dunno why this species is reputedly so hard, i just always heard that it can't be done.

so you have it pinning from horse manure, and the only life forms present are the semi mycelium and whatever survived the casing pasteurisation. was that outdoor soil, or what? could there be any helper substances present? cos if not, this should be repeatable in any setup anywhere. i'm gonna have a go from a sporeprint i think, as i can't wait til september.

and i agree with the sheep shit comment, have thought the same thing myself.

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

Good to see, but pinning is a lot easier than actually primordia formation. After all, subaeruginosa, arcana and azurescens all pin inside jars at temperatures that i know would never, ever support fruiting.
Pinning can be a good sign ofcourse, but sometimes an isolate pins on agar, pins its arse off in the jar and then fucken vegetates out in the wood bed.
GOod luck mate

i once took inside a pice of "dirt" w some pins of what i thought was an inactive dung loving specie for studying its devolpment. But it showed out to be semils. It flushed second time 2-3 months later (in winter when my room was cold)

i took some pics of both flushes.

1st time in october some days after taking home:

second time in february:

I know this isnt growing.

Update 6/9/05:
Old pins in microbox are stalling out, but new bigger pins have erupted nearby.

Another modified attempt using the same culture. Grass seed spawn with sterilized grass straw (dried weeds from the yard) and a small amount of horse manure. A tiny bit of garden soil was placed on the cake after fully colonized to provide stimulating organisms.

Pins are forming only where dirt is present.

This cakelike method seems to be working a bit better than the microbox attempt so far.

Those are looking great! How big are they? Still look pretty tiny. But I reckon they've got a chance at making it to maturity. Keep goin little guys!!
