Thinking about jumping into the stock market.

So I was watching NewsRadio, like the episode where Jimmy James is going off about stocks and I thought "Dude... I have money... I have free time... I have a computer... I should jump into the stock market."
So I think I'm going to start off with like $100 and see what happens. I'll probably lose it all over in a couple of days but it could be fun and hey I like gambling and figuring out systems and how to beat systems (kind of how I wound up on the shroomery trying to beat a different system awhile ago) so yeah.
Advice? Praise? Condemnation?

Real estate is much more stable and just as lucrative - if - not more.
For a very insightful book, I recommend Real Estate Riches by Dolf DeRoos. One of the most compelling books on real estate, ever.

I say go for it bro. If you find out any good stock opps. PM me! Im sure I could scrounge up a hundred bucks somewhere if it were going to multiply. hah.
edit: I was thinking about going into the stock market a while ago I had a little extra money. Was going to put $100 into Sonys stock but never got around to it. I figured that when the PSP came out it would go up and I was reading the paper everyday checking. It was going up a little every day and somedays it would dip a little. At the time the PSP came out it didnt go up much at all. After that I was never interested.

Well, it can be rather lucrative with a little bit of skill and luck. You can also lose a lot of money too, if you're not careful. But you're doing the right thing by only using $100 to start out with.....

the market is supposed to surge upwards quite a bit this summer, so get it in there now why it's still cheap.

I wouldnt jump into it. Do reaserch into the various markets and buisness. Take into acount if you want to be an agressive trader or a longterm player.
Longterm for a novise is where its at as long as you really do some reaserch or you get a good tip.
If you want to be up to date and part of it beeing agressive and activly buying and selling can make you quick dollars.
But like Skorpio said realestate is a awesome way to go. You get bank in a couple years if you find the right areas.
and Skorp im going to get that book this week thanks.

I lost 500 dollars because I bought K-mart stock when they were going under. Their shares were going for like 50 cents and I thought for sure they were going to get a government subsidiary to pull themselves out of debt and I would be a rich man. But they declared bankruptcy, screwed the stockholders and I lost 500 bucks, since they had no more debt, they were able to rebound and stay in buisness. Fuck Kmart. I will forever be a loyal wal-mart shopper.

It's an excellent book, and he even goes right off the bat into how Real Estate is superior to Stock Market investing in the first chapter, hehe.
After you read that, "Real Estate Loopholes" by Diane Kennedy and Gary Sutton is a real keeper too.
And there is also the "36-Hour Real Estate Investing Course" by Jack Cummings, which is everything condensed into one solid book, written in a formal, yet very simple manner. But it's been the hardest book for me to finish, just because it's so text-bookish and very, very boring. But in all due respect, this book is probably the most technically informative.

The problem with real eastate is that when interest rates go up, home buying goes down. The interest rates have been going up for the past few years... I've got 200 dollars to start but I kinda wanna spend it all on weed, which I have been doing for the past few weeks.

Guys? are you kidding? this guy has a hundred bucks to drop, "real estate" isn't a viable option for him. Neither are stocks, really. 100$ to invest and make some money? A spore print, 200lbs of compost and straw, bird seed.

That's standard policy.
If you want more secure returns when a company's nearing bankruptcy buy bonds intead of stock. (although obviously they can default on bonds, bondholders get paid off before stockholders).
Buying shares of a company nearing chapter 11 is risky, sometimes it pays off huge, sometimes it doesn't.
No reason to hold a personal grudge, except just that k-mart sucks in general.

Check out Cbeyond Communications' IPO. IPOs are not really the best thing to recommend to someone new to the market (like me), but they can do alright (e.g., Google).

Interest rates are rising and there is an inverse relationship (over time) with interest rates and stock prices. It hasn't kicked in yet, but sooner or later the two will synch up.
The real estate market is a bubble that may burst soon. Rampant speculation has driven prices to unsustainable levels. Real estate is very unstable right now.
If you want to invest, invest in T bills. If you must speculate try shorting the market.

The problem with real eastate is that when interest rates go up, home buying goes down.
Well look at it this way, do you really want to be buying property when everybody is buying? When home buying goes down, price tags and offers go down, and so forth. Prime time to buy.
Then when the pendulum swings back to the other direction, i.e. interest rates going down and home buying going up, then it becomes the time to sell...
Makes sense?
