Do I just push the needle directly through it?

Cut the filters bigger and don't even use the lids. In other words, the third pic but with a bigger filter. That is the way I do it with BRF/Verm and half-pinters.

The first picture is right. The second picture would cause the filter to get wet, thus contaminating. The third picture would allow too much moisture to escape, thus drying out your spawn. I use the metal lid with the rubber side up so it doesn't stick to the glass and is easier to get off. The gasses will take the path of least resistance, which is through the holes you've drilled.

I still don't really get this due to the mixed responses, do I need to redrill new lids with only one hole?

Do I inject then add the filter patch?

Thanks

You want the filter patch and lid in place when you pressure cook the jars. Also use foil over the top. Afterwards, if you're going to use a syringe, you can put the jar in the glovebox and lift the ring and filter, then shoot through the holes in the metal lid. Quickly replace the filter and ring.

You can make a breather hole and a syringe needle hole and inoculate right thru the filter. Following that you can use tape or a band aid, if your worried, to cover the inoculation hole.

However the way I do it, I just make one breather hole. And to inoculate I just open the lid/filter/ring together and stick the needle in, squeeze and re-close. It's alot easier but to each their own. Good luck.
