i had picked some wild shrooms off a cow pattie. they looked identical to cubes, 6" long, fat round caps, 1/2 -1" stem dia, white stems, caps white with a little brown coloration on top, spore print chocolate/black. when i dried them via dessicator they turned a dark dark blue, and had a pungent smell to em.
is this common for wild psilos to turn this dark of blue? this wasnt a sign of potentcy as they werent that potent. could this have been another psilo species that acts as a mimic?
also, i attempted to grow then on rice grains, did 3 jars, only one jar is showing any sign of life and its moving at a crawl, so its obviously not very apt to grow on anything but poo.

That blue coloring is an indications of psilocin oxidizing. Once it oxidizes it's no longer psilocin and no longer active. If yours turned a dark blue upon drying it makes sense that they were weak; all the psilocin oxidized.
Proper handling and drying techniques will help your mushrooms retain their potency.

my homegrown's done blue that much, their much more potent, and my drying techinque is the same. ive never seen a mushroom blue that much, and i think it highly unlikly that the whole mushroom oxidized.

Very Potent Unidentified Shrooms from NZ [Re: Abermelin]

I found some shroomz in a rose bush in (northland)Whangarei NZ. they were short, fat, very heavy, and extremely potent. They grow from 2cm - 7cm, the stalk is almost fully concealed by the cap which is hot air balloon shaped and the cap hardly opens or just pulls away from the stalk by max of 1cm in my findings at full growth. they are the normal light orange/gold on top to light blue to grey around the bottom of the cap, the stalk is qrey/cream/white and the gills are brown. i had 10-15 and they blew my mind like never before (can give details of trip). In comparison to the 7 other species i pick in this town including psilocybe cyanesence i would rate them many times stronger than the strongest of the strongest i have experienced, i have no picture but i will try to take some photos.

wow, that doesnt help. i guess the mushroom community isnt as experienced as i had thought if they cant id a cube mimic that dries dark blue and is relatively weak in potentcy.

more like no one wants to guess without a pic cause your description is pretty ambiguous and LBMs don't leave room for errors, we need specific information.
there's a lot of difference between brown spores and black. brown spores would likely mean agrocybe, black would mean coprinus or panaeolus. i'll believe the blue bruising when I see it...

abermelin, your description does not really match up.
maybe you found a Psilocybe cubensis and didnt really know it.
no brown spored mushrooms that resemble cubensis stain blue like you described.
and if it was a black spored mushroom, then that would make me think either Panaeolus or Coprinus, and none of those mushrooms look like cubensis.
so overall, your description does not match up.
silly enough, my guess would be that you found a P. cubensis growing from dung, and you didnt even know what it was. :chuckles:

its either black or really really dark brown, my guess is black, its hard to tell cause the material i took a spore print on is clear dark blue.
ive talked it over and apparently it was a fat capped white pann subb which would explain its dark bruising and weak potentcy (and black spore print). ive collected pann subbs before and they never looked anything like a cube, but apparently ive found a mimic.
that or the cow shit their growing out of has some wacky shit in it thats changing its properties.

You need to take the print on plain white paper. Not dark blue shit.
