O.K. I'm making up some 60/40 and want to know if I should add oyster shell or not. I know the ph is what I want right now, but I'm thinking for later flushes. If yes, how much by volume should I add? 10%? Thanks for the help. Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. HC

Definitely not needed for coir, but it never hurts. You can toss 5-10% oyster shell in there for good measure.

Im on flush three, with no oyster shell using 60/40. So far no complaints from the casings.
This is not the best pinset, but i know what i did wrong (not enough substrate!) I am still getting between 100-200 grams per flush though, so no complaints. I guess for a first timer, its not tooooo bad!
I dont think it will hurt ya, but you might not need to worry about it either.

Thanks. I've got 50 lbs., so I'm gonna add 5%. It's casing poo, 4" deep, so I'm expecting, or hoping for, a bit of mycelium waste and hopefully a few flushes. How fine, or what consistency, should it be. I paid $6.99 for 50 lbs. Is that good ? Peace,Love,Happiness and Harmony. Hippie Chick

Hi:) using the crushed oyster shell adds nice texture, which in turn creates craters. Mycelia LOVE this textured surface. It doesn't break down too well, but because of its texture abilities, it does help in more aggressive mycelia.:) so my friend would use it. bluhoney
