salvinorin a extraction
    #4122615 - 05/02/05 09:33 AM (18 years, 10 months ago)

I have read many teks on using acetone and to extract the salvinorin a from the leaf while keeping the oils and lipiods and chlorophyl at a minimum. At the end they all say to do a naptha wash to pick up any of the impurities that may have gotten through. My question is why not do a naptha wash of the powdered leaf before the extraction. If salvinorin a is ver insoluble in naptha but many of the impurities are, then wouldn't it be beneficial to wash it before hand. Then you would be starting out with plant matter that has a very reduced impuriy content and you would be able to have longer soak times without having to worry about the acetone npicking up other shit.

I have no idea if this is a good idea or not but I just wanted to ask before I tried extracting 100 grams of leaves.

the naphtha stage is where you squeeze the tiny tarry blob with your fingers to "physically emulsify - really dissolve" it, what goes into naphtha is actually pretty resistant to being a solute as it is also waxy too, so going at the whole leaf like this is backwards.

at this stage it is pretty close to final extraction and the salvinorin-A will settle from this solution but it is hard to make the soloution happen and not just leave a blob.

the only things I would add, if I could, would be to use centrifuges for the various settlement stages i.e.:

1. settling debris out of the first acetone extraction.
2. settling salvinorin form naphtha.

otherwise the Divinorum extraction is perfecto!

ya dude i know the naptha wash is the last step in purification, but I was thinking that you could wash the powedered leaf with naptha because all the fats, oils, and chlorophyl are soluble in naptha while salvinorin is not
