Bulk at field capacity?
    #4084316 - 04/22/05 08:59 AM (18 years, 11 months ago)

hello about a week ago i spawned 2qts. WBS to 5lb if 50/50 Tenn Stud (Hay/Poo). I have almost no growth, since the spawn.

When i opened my WBS jars, they where fully clumped, but not wet. As a matter of fact, one jar 'poofed' a cloud of mycelium, when opened.
My bulk is NOT at field capacity. should it be? I think so now.

Also, I am almost positive that it was mycelium that colonized my WBS. Although i never had much rhizomorph growth (no reaching strands) and the seeds themselves became spotted white (it almost looked like it was coming down with white chicken pox).

whats the dilly yo?

When a multi/spore WBS jar starts to colonize, it should look like this (above)

When it is fully colonized, it should look like this (above).

If you have something "POOFING" out of a WBS jar.... something is WAY WRONG.

Big DITTO. Spotted white isnt good either. You got some sort of contam there..

>Also, I am almost positive that it was mycelium that colonized my WBS.

I am 100% positive that it was mycelium too. However your thinking it was cubie mycelium, and not mold mycelium....that I would not be anywhere near as sure of.

also, the WBS smelled like mushrooms, it was just really dry!  when the growth started (about 3-4 days after injection) I shook it all up.  that is why i thought it was all good.
I really respect you two and your posts (I just started seeing you here Sammy ) and I'm not saying you are all wrong, but I haven't seen any contam like this.  its not green!

Not all contams are green. I dont know what it is, I'm just saying, I have never seen nor heard of a healthy jar "puffing". Puffing indicates spores have been released and if its cubie myelium, mushrooms need to be present to release spores. Mold mycelium though produces spores without mushrooms so its harder to see. My thoughts are cobweb since its grey/white...I'm just not sure though. If it colonized and fruited obviously it would be ok, but now your running into trouble with it not doing anything after a week. Pictures would help alot, I mean maybe you just didnt break it up very much. Is it colonizing at all? Like how much. You have to be more specific at what your looking at if you dont provide pictures for us to look at.

I have to agree with the others; a cloud "poofing" out of a jar is bad news. Mushroom mycelia does not poof.

Your dung/straw mixture should not be wet. After pasteurizing, the straw should drain for a few hours (I let it drain overnight) and it's good to go. Horse crap should be hand squeezed until just a bit of water dribbles out, then broken up and spawned.

Maybe poof was a {very} poor choice of a word.

I just checked, and there is definitely more growth, but it is mainly on the seeds (mostly the sunflowers).  It still isn't running through the poo.  I don't think it is cobweb (where is Tahoe and his sig ), but I will know soon enough.

What about if my jars dried out before they finished colonizing?  The jar didn't look anything like yours agar (i only wish) but my syringe was very cloudy, and I am sure i got a SHIT TON of spores in each jar.  Are there any pics of stalled WBS jars?

Sorry about no pics, and thanks for all of your help so far!

I have had clouds of spores in bags and jars. Empty them up outside and your all good. you only need I think 2 spores too colonize a jar. Like 1/2 cc. I had too wait 3 weeks for growth on my first jars with spores.
