yup...

on my end it's been like this for a few days, but today was the climax, longest outages and most amounts of drops in a day.

Comcast has been good to me. They're up to 4mb/384kb which works fine for me. Around here RoadRunner is pretty much the same.

Yeah plus for an extra $10 you get 6mbps/768kbps! I got no beef with Comcast except for their overpriced basic cable.

What are you serious Ythan? I'm all over that shit!

I'm hating the 384kb upload, I really want a game server.

I thought it was $99 for their "Premium" service? Maybe it's lower now or in different areas.

Wow. Just checked Comcast.com's site and found I can get the addition for $10. That's fucking fast. The d/l I don't really care about but the u/l is nice.

Anyone know how much bandwidth I need to run a decent 20 user fps server? SOF2 most likely.

You would want atleast 1mbit upload for a server that big.

For a small FPS server with 10-12 players 512kbit upload is recommended, so I imagine you would need double that for 20 players.

Also tons of memory really helps.

Hmm, I'd be running a dedicated linux server. So even with 768 I couldn't have more than 16 at most?

I really can't say for sure, it mostly depends on the game. I'm sure Linux server will run a lot better than winblows so might as well give 'er a try.

It's really not going to matter what OS you're running when it comes to network traffic...network protocols are always going to have overhead eating at your bandwidth.

Network traffic, yes of course no difference with OS because it's just people getting on your server either way.

Reliability, stability, security however huge issue....I've never seen Linux crash, plus a lot harder for the haxor kiddeez than winblows (having about 200 times as many vulnerabilities and all).

$5 says this is a result of the recent DNS poisoning.

You can thank Comcast for running Windoze servers.

Sorry if this was mentioned above...

someone a tad paranoid might think that they are adding equipment to better monitor everything their users do in trade for government support for use of exising lines.... someone would
