Can't Find Straw? I have a place for you to check!
    #401732 - 09/23/01 02:47 PM (22 years, 6 months ago)

I know a lot of people have trouble finding straw or find it but can't get anything but a full bale so this might help you.

I was in JoAnn's the other day and they were selling small bales of straw ( maybe 1 1/2 ft by 1 ft ) all bundled and wrapped up for halloween. I can't be sure about what kind of straw it was because it was wrapped in plastic but it looked like it was probably wheat straw. It's expensive for the amount your getting but only about $6.00 (which is actually more than I paid for my whole full size bale)

For those of you who don't know what JoAnn's is, it is a craft/sewing chain store. I know that they are in abundance all up and down California but I am not sure if they are nationwide of not but they probably are because I think they are pretty huge!

Hope this helps someone.

Ok just checked out their site and they have locations all over the country.

I do suggest that you find the closest store and call them to see if they carry it before you go because they might not carry this product everywhere. I wouldn't want you to waste your time going there and them not have it.

Check out their website for a store locator.

click on FIND A JOANN STORE in the right corner and take it from there.

Hi Karen, there is a cool supply store online called "mushroommagic". They sell 1/3 of a bale. Which is HUGE(fits in an extra large yard and lawn trash bag). Lasts plenty of growing cycles.:)http://www.mushroommagic.com/grow_mediia.htm#wheatstraw its only 16 dollars. Try them Karen you wont be disapointed.:)bluhoney

Yes bluhoney that is a good source....I personally don't need to find straw as I have a horse stable and feed store a couple miles from my house. A whole bale there only costs about $5.00.

I was just offering up this source for people as an alternative to ordering online and for those that just want a one shot deal and don't wan't to have a trash can full of wheatstraw laying around the house.

Thanks for posting the link though....I am sure some people will find that useful as well.

Oh thought that I would mention that I was just in WalMart and they have the same thing only I think it is a bit smaller for only $3.50. They had in in their halloween section of the craft department.

Just curious, will dry grass (from a wild field) work in place of straw? I have plenty of that about...
