Cobweb questions, can someone clear this up for me?
    #4016983 - 04/05/05 11:48 AM (18 years, 11 months ago)

What does cobweb mold ACTUALLY look like? The only pictures I could find on this site had a bunch of comments following it saying "That's not cobweb, dude, that's just myc."

So can anyone show me a pic of DEFINITE cobweb? What are the conditions that lead to cobweb infection? Can cobweb make you ill?

I'm on my second flush pins/primordia right now, and I noticed some fuzzy shit on the casing. It came up in the same spots where I sprinkled some casing mix on some overlay... I think. It wasn't as white as the rest of the myc, and it looked like it didn't come up from underneath so much. Then again it kinda looks like the myc is colonizing the casing, but that it's too dry and so it isnt doing as well.

I don't know. Can anyone clear this up for me?

Nevermind. I just found the contamination FAQ in this forum.

I don't think I have cobweb, but I am still not completely sure. If anyone has any tips on preventing/reducing cobweb contamination, let me know.

mist withg 10% peroxide to 90% water.cobweb is more of a nuisance than anything.the peroxide in the water should help to stop any before it gets out of control. As the casing uses its nutrients it more prone to contam so as the flushes go on you need to be extra aware and use the peroxide.

Actually, for cobweb you can use the 3% hydrogen peroxide sold in grocery and drug stores straight from the bottle. Put in your misting bottle and spray the cobweb. What you describe sounds like cobweb. It will be very airy and fluffy, and seem to be above the casing, not really on it. It is grey, not white. It will melt on contact with the peroxide. The peroxide won't kill your mushrooms, but they don't appreciate it much either, so try to get as much on the cobweb and as little on your pins as possible.

dr0mni - I know what you are talkinga bout as I have it. weak mycelium growing on those patched spots can be almost indistinguishable from cobweb.. on the first day it grows. Give it tomorrow and I bet its alot brighter.  :sun:

nope still grey, but it's not growing tremendously fast like the FAQ said it would.

My casing is fruiting right now, would it still be okay to spray with STRAIGHT H2O2? I'ma do this NOW!

okay, hope I didn't just fry my shrooms. I tried to keep the spray localized, but just said fuck it and misted the whole thing a few times...

If the grey stuff melted on contact with the peroxide, it was cobweb.

Cobweb is grey, light and fluffy. It will be 1/4" thick, but you will be able to see right through it to the casing below. If you spray with peroxide, it will melt and actually disappear. If you spray mycelium, it will foam up a bit, but not disappear.
