burnt bottom of the jars.. will they still colonize
    #3992577 - 03/30/05 09:16 PM (19 years, 3 days ago)

I just steamed them for an hour and when i opened the pot, all the water was gone!!!! The bottoms of the jars were crusty and shit, will these jars still colonize???
I just did the first 6, and now i am doing the second 6, with a lot more water in the pot and everything went well.

I'd chuck 'em. I had some burn a while ago and they colonized until they hit the bottoms. Then they stopped completely. Six jars isn't bad to redo. Just my opinion.

when they stopped colonizing, did u have to throw em out, or did u just use the remaining colonized mycelium?

Yes, they will probably colonize, but your yield will be a little less than you might have hoped for. The substrate can get pretty rubbery and inhospitable to the devloping mycelium if it's left to cook too long - at least, that has been my experience with brown rice flour-based substrates. I think you should redo the jars; it's better if you don't start out with this type of mistake.
