It's extremely rare... and I don't think you'd die from eating a normal dose anyways... your throat would have to swell up so much that you wouldn't be able to breathe.

I have never heard of this, you don't have to worry .

ignore the above. A person can be allergic to anything that their immune system decides cannot be tolerated by the body - mushrooms are regarded in general as a type of food substance that is more likely to cause allergic reactions - in the same frequent category as say gluten (celliac), tomatoes, eggs and nuts. So it isnt that infrequent. If your allergic, try getting intestinal worms - they actually dampen your allergic response to foods.

It's more likely that you're allergic to something on the mushrooms, i.e. mold, than the mushroom itself.

if you are scared of being allergic then just go get an Epi-Pen. better safe than sorry. and how bad would it suck to have a sever allergic reaction to mushies while tripping and have to call the hospital. just go to your doctor and tell him you got stung by a bee and after the sting you had difficulty breathing and the doc will give you an epi-pen.

I had what I percieve to be an allergic reaction one time. Of course, I did eat WAY TOO MUCH that night. Nevertheless - it was not fun having to calm down my sober wife and forcing her to NOT call 911. She freaked because she saw how big my hands got, they swelled up like balloons, like when you get hit by a rattler.
Allergic? Most likely. Shrooms? Maybe. But since they were all fresh(I was actually picking them one by one and popping them in my mouth like a madman) - I may have eaten some "funk" aside from shrooms themselves. Could be the case that some mold or green stuff went along for the ride to my mouth. After all, I was already tripping my tail off at the time I decided to "chow down".
Be careful. Never say never.

'It's more likely that you're allergic to something on the mushrooms, i.e. mold, than the mushroom itself. '
Why? WHy woudl someone 'more likely' be allergic to one substance than another? Allergies dont work that way mate - and a mold or bacteria on the surface would be so minute that its far less likely to cause on overreaction from the person's immune system to a perceived threat (what an allergy is). Allergies tend to occur with foods that are harder for the body to digest - like gluten, etc. Mushrooms are quite often implicated in food allergies - just ask any allergist.

If a person is allergic to mushrooms, he or she is going to be allergic to the actual spores of the mushrooms. Since spores very greatly from one species to the next, a person may be allergic to one species and not allergic to another.
I know of a guy who is severly allergic to the spores of portabella mushrooms, but isn't allergic what-so-ever to morals or psilocybe cubensis.
