Having Trouble Finding Vermiculite???
    #3702706 - 01/30/05 03:02 PM (19 years, 2 months ago)

I've seen alot of posts about people not being able to find verm over the past couple of months. Alot of people have said its because its out of season or what not. In case you didn't know, vermiculite is often used in fireplaces for people that use fake/gas logs. So when its out of season for gardening, its actually in season for gas log fireplaces. A FOAF uses this, and works out great for him. Just look in the section of Home Depot/Lowes for fireplace supplies. Just an FYI...

Link: You can zoom in and see the texture on the Lowe's site here...

Large chunk verm, I've never seen it used for this purpose. Interesting, thanks.

i finally found it by doing a Google Local search. http://local.google.com/ has a search box that works on a yellow-pages for your surrounding area. put in "Gardening" and call the first few hits. booyah, i found a greenhouse 20 minutes north o me.

it's interesting that a lot of lowes stores no longer carryvermiculite for
gardening, a product that will be used outdoors with plenty of ventalaation,
but one thats meant to be heated and remain in a living area that may have poor
circulation is still being sold

under a local search, I have a corporation dedicated to selling vermiculite...

good find

Home Depots dont..at least in gardening. Neither do my Lowes... at any time of the year let alone this one.

I couldn't find it at HD as well. Lowes had it in there greenhouse thing. Neither of em had potassium permanganate either, something thats supposed to be commonly used to clean sand filters for water.
