mycelium... slow or no growth
    #369239 - 08/09/01 08:50 AM (22 years, 7 months ago)

I innoculated 12 jars and have kept them in the closet at a constant temp. of 85 degrees. It's been 7 days and all I have seen is a very tiny spot of white growth (about the size of a pea) on only 3 jars. Does it usually take this long for the mycelium to start growing? Should I give the jars some light, or take the tape off the holes to allow some air flow? Or am I just being impatient? I have read some posts where people were saying they have 50-70% growth after just 6 days. Any info would be appreciated.

Are the jars at a good temp.? If the temp. is cold, it will take longer to colonize. Make sure they're not on the floor, it's cold down there...

My friend's jars took 6 weeks to fully colonize. Her's were on the floor. Just keep them warm. And maybe your spores were old, cause that will make colonization times longer... Maybe it'll colonize slow, but at least it's growing.

Mycelium growth 1 week or less after spore innoculation is a good thing. It may take up to and beyond a month to fully colonise a jar. If your temps are right, it should only take a few weeks.

I colonized mine at around 85-90 degrees. They finished in about 2 weeks but they were VERY dry. I had to dunk them before the first flush. The heat makes the moisture come out a lot quicker.
