Reasons for active mushroom season to be over?

I'm curious what the main reasons for the active mushroom season coming to an end in the PNW are. Is it a simple matter of the fruit running its course? Is it a change in weather? Both? Something else?

Here in the bay area the weather is the same as it was in Nov and Dec some I'm curious why the season wouldn't still be going strong.

Up here we had an usually cold snap for a couple weeks which would end the season for the most part, except there's always exceptions. Since down there you haven't had such an extreme change in weather I would expect you would have a greater chance of finding them still.

Pretty much what you mentioned.. A mushrooms needs food, temperature, and water to grow.. Take any of those away and you get the end of the season... Even in prime weather conditions if other factors are not present you get no mushrooms :mushroom2:
