Question about non-substrate casing layers

Thicker casing layers obviously take longer to fruit, however I was wondering if they help the casing keep flushing after 3 or 4 flushes, even though they aren't nutritional. Basically what I'm asking is: Are there any advantages to thicker casing layers?

Heres what I have goin on: PF, 7.5 half pints cased at 2". Half inch of 50/50+ on top and bottom

Not that they give more flushes but you'll get bigger flushes.

Is it thicker casing layer that causes bigger flushes or thicker substrate layer?

The two are directly related. A thicker substrate requires a thicker casing. A good rule of thumb is to make the casing about 25% as thick as the substrate. For example, a 2 inch substrate would require a 1/2 inch casing.
