Pink Floyd/ Psychedelic Music
    #3626668 - 01/14/05 01:05 AM (19 years, 3 months ago)

What is everyone's favorite music to trip on? I prefer Pink Floyd, but then again I dont really know of any other music that is good to listen to that have a good psychedelic sound to them.

I just listen to my MP3's usually, making a playlist of whatever strikes me as 'good' at the moment. Usually Zeppelin, Radiohead, Floyd, The Doors, a coupla Phish songs, Smashing Pumpkins, Umphrey's McGee, Groove Armada, LTJ Bukem, Underworld, Yo La Tengo, Dead, Everything But The Girl. Most of these don't have a psychedelic sound to them, but it's just what I listen to while tripping.

I've only tripped 3 times. Twice on tool. The other time I watched a movie.

Well, I like to listen to alot of shit when I'm tripping. The Dead, Primus, Phish, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Steve Kimmock, NOFX, Pink Floyd, Widespread Panic, Del The Funky Homosapien, Yonder Mountain String Band, Obituary, Tortoise, etc., etc....It all has it's place in psychedellia, imho. You just gotta go with whatever grabs you!

Yeah, all I hear is real good stuff. None of it is like Pink Floyd though. Their sound is so deep and unique.
I wish there were more bands like Pink Floyd out there.
When im tripping, I can always relate one thing or another to a song of theirs. I also have the same feeling with The Doors. Its a nice feeling. Before I had my first trip, I allways wondered how they came up with some of their genious shit. It alll makes sense when im on the same shit they were on when they made it!

I hear what your saying about Floyd, but you should try watching some Grateful Dead films, like So Far or Dead Ahead, as these were designed for tripping, and have lots of little "hidden bits" for your eyes and ears to discover.

Shpongle and Ozric Tentacles. The two most trippiest acts in the world. No one even comes close.

Trevorda8, if you like the Pink Floyd sound, checkout Porcupine Tree, especially their earlier work. Very very similiar.

Check out their last album, In Absentia, too. Some of those songs are so trippy, especially, collapse the light into earth, and heart attack in a layby.

I dont think Magical Mystery Tour would be that good to trip too. Rubber Soul and Abbey Road are the best.

agreed!!!! along with the pumpkins, i enjoy tripping to the grateful dead, phish (anything with trey), shpongle, tool, prefuse 73, john coltrane, miles davis, thelonius monk, medeski martin wood, the bad plus..i saw yonder mountain string band while tripping balls and had the time of my life, but listening to them is not the same as being there, so i'll say i occasionally listen to bluegrass on a trip, nickel creek, ymsb, del mcoury, etc..:mushroom2:

It's your choice Phumfeinz, but "Magical Mystery Tour" was made during The Beatles psychedelic period. I would choose that over the two you mentioned for "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "I Am The Walrus" alone. "Rubber Soul" was made before they discovered psychedelics and "Abby Road" was their last album, made during a time when they were pretty much done with that whole scene.
