Joni Mitchell and Woodstock
    #3620640 - 01/12/05 08:46 PM (19 years, 2 months ago)

In 1969, Joni Mitchell was living with David Crosby. She didn't make it to Woodstock, but she did write one of CSNY's most famous songs 'woodstock'

She sang it, and then CSNY did it again. Joni's version is lesser known.

I'd like to hear some of your comparisons of the two different versions of Woodstock...

...giver!

CSNY also played "wooden ships" at woodstock ( i think) thats an Jefferson airplane original from the "volunteers" album.

oh sorry, i have nothing to contribute re: your question....sorry.

There are two ways to get to the top of an oak tree: start climbing or sit on an acorn.

Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?

not sure about this song, but I love Joni Mitchell. of course Blue is a classic album, but Court and Spark is also amazing. not many people know that Maynard of Tool was hugely influenced by Joni. anyway. sorry I couldn't help a ton. Joni rox, though.

"we are star dust, we are golden" is one of my favorite lines in any song

i like jonis version a lot better
i like the way her voice breaks on "smog"
and there is a really sad edge that is completely lacking in the csny version
and the electric piano sound is great

the csny version is bouncy and i usually turn it off if it comes on

k
