cakes are cakes you can improve them slightly but for the full potential look into casing, it's really easy once youve done it once.

Yes you can cut cakes in half and greatly increase yeilds. Check out the forums on sporelab.com. One of the posters there started doing it, he puts the half cakes on aluminum foil and sprinkles with wet vermiculite.
He yeilds about an ounce and a half dry on his first flushes.

here's the link

And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk ...four times already this year and I used to be over by the window and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and its not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire.

Thats interesting shroommachine,
The cultivator of that link you gave us says he/she recieves better results doing it that way instead of casing the cakes.
I keep reading all types of posts about cakes latly, and have been impressed with the results myself. Afew years ago, I remember not many people were into the cake thing, maybe just a handful of new comers to the hobby. Most folks were casing, and swearing by it. It seems either the tide has shifted, or there's alot more people into the hobby now.
I have to admit though, I'm alittle skeptical, as I come from the old school method of beliving casings should produce a much better yeild overall. But then again I've never done a cake.
Thx for the link

yes you can cut cakes in half and yes it does seem to grow more shrooms but they are smaller and still to date i have not had a monster grow off of a cake cut in half. i cut mine down the middle so i have to long pices with flat bottoms. all in all it seems so produce the same in the beginning but the by the 3rd flush they grow fewer and smaller. in a sec ill post a pic of a cake cut in half for you. a plus, less likely to accidently tip over. a minus, takes up more room.

yeah i think he was referring to the sea o shrooms method... i just took one of my cakes and dunked, cut and crumbled and cased a day or 2 ago (in a cup as suggested in the tek) so i'll post something if the diff. between those and my normal cakes is significant
