Poppies Already up!!

My neighbor planted some poppies late this fall. I went out to look at her garden and noticed that the poppies have sprouted because of the unsesonalble weather we've been having in Michigan. My question is: Will these survive the winter? I was under the impression that when these were planted in the fall, they would sprout in early spring..maybe I'm wrong. I would ask at poppies.org, but for some reason, I'm no longer registered

I've had poppies sprout in the early winter and live through many snows and frosts. it's probably warmer over here than MI, but they're very hardy, even as seedlings. those same seedlings grew into some massive poppy bushes the following spring and produced 10+ (easily, some 2-3 times more) flowers/pods each, completely dwarfed the ones planted in spring, fall planting is the way to go IMO . My poppy cabbage survived the frosts but I doubt it will be flowering anytime soon.

If they stay as rosettes they should be fine until spring.

My poppy patch is going along slowly. The biggest ones are like 2" or a little bigger. I hope for a nice crop come spring. I have plenty of extra seeds if anyone is interested. I have hens and chicks, gigs, danborg, persian white and breadseed.
