casing=small, cakes=big

I'm doing Mexi cubs right now. I"ve got 2 3 cake casing and 6 whole cakes flushing. The Cake shrooms are much more pletifull and biger. the casing i used was strait vermiculit. what's the deal? I'm totaly turned off to casing now.

About a half inch casing layer, about 3 inch substrate layer.

They cakes have a greater surface area to mass ration allowing easier transport of nutrients to the mushrooms by the hyphae. The greater the surface area to mass ratio the bigger you first few flushes will be.
