 Cake Blueing All Over...

Well.. so far my late cake has only produced 1 mature shroom.. as compared to my mini casings.. 1/4 cake each and they have at least 5 - 8 pins on each.. both birthed at same time and in same terrarium.. plus the big cake was blueing from the point I picked the shroom.. now the next day I look at it and see that It has gone blue almost all over.. contam maybe?

It is common for psilocybin mushrooms to blue that it what was makes them illegal you now own and illegal substance LOL...have fun.
Not to worry though if it starts smelling funny then your in trouble.

I didn't say mushroom.. I said the entire cake has turned from white fluffy to blueish white...

I can read I know you did and my answer is still the same. It does not have to be a full grown mushroom to produce psilocybin it is often in the mycelium (or on your cake)
I THINK someone said that it is a sign that your mushrooms will be good BUT I am not sure.

There must be some environmental factor that you are missing and/or have too little to less of. Three things come to mind:
1. How often and how much the cake was handled
2. humidity
3. air-exchange
Other than that, i have never heard of a blue contaminant which does not have a smell of it's own, but i have heard of blueing cakes , which turned blue from one of these 3 things. Feel free to add to the list. peace

Brown Pastures is right on target. Maybe when you picked it you knocked it over by accident or you held it in your hand to help pick the shroom. Maybe its alittle dry.

If the cake is old it will turn blue. How long you been trying to fuit it?
If it's completly blue, all the food has been consumed and the fungus did it's job...time ...to die.

well im not gonna worry about it.. the cake is nowhere near being spent.. only gone through it's first flush.. all the new shrooms poppin up on it look very healthy anways..

actually, you can safely dunk with pins present, instead of using a jar, dunk in a ziplock bag so there's room for the pins. it doesn't have to be totally submerged, just mostly.
