I use http://www.swheatscoop.com/  As my cat litter and was just wondering if this would be able to substitute for wheat rye?? Just wondering?? :mushroom2:

well TMC says that wheat can be used as a substrate
but i wonder b/c that litter's website says:
Quote:

Performance. Natural wheat enzymes do an outstanding job of neutralizing litter box odor, while wheat starches clump firmly for easy scooping as soon as they?re activated with moisture. Wheat also makes for a neater litter that tracks less around the house and doesn?t raise clay dust clouds when poured.

clumping would not be a good thing, and adding water of course would be necessary
another advantage to grains is the ability to shake, i don't know how this would work out when the litter was wet based on the pics that website shows

Is possible if they do not use any fungicides in the mix to aid with odor control and prevent growth in the cat box .

i don't doubt it could be done with some experimentation, though

ITs all naturaul no chemicals added. And as for being wet it is quite dry? Wonder how it would handle a soak? Would it turn to mush?? Should i give it a try?

Fungicides are not always "chemical" as in not natural .
Baking soda for example is used as a fungicide , not what I consider harmfull to kitties  :wink:But mushies deffinetly will not like it
But yes , check that before going all crazy , making up dozens of jars . Do a soak test , does it turn all to a gooey mush , or does it stay intact like grains .
GL
PS you are not first to think of this , so better hurry and be the first to post results if good

You will find, once mixed with water, this type stuff turns to mush like paste. Alone, it is

Mixed with fine clipped soaked straw, aged leach horse manure, it works.

But, some have binding agent, that makes it like glue, mixed with water. So,..... you just have to try & decide - YOURSELF

Only takes 10 minutes to turn to glue mush paste. No need to soak overnight.

Never, as in  :eek:NEVER  add any to grain or WBS spawn jar either. Glue factor makes "shaking" utterly IMPOSSIBLE :mad2:.

Coffee factor is BS, IMHO.

Better to add manure, or compost tea to a WBS soak.

Which is BS? You ever see shroom growing out of coffee in cup.

You do see shroom growing out of manure, or compost pile.

Think about that

I always wondered about the acid in coffee being a problem
Is why I glanced over tek and left it for those who believe in it , just MHO .
Everyone goes so crazy trying too make sure casing is 7.0 , but never consider food source matters more , does it not agar ?

Food for thought...

All cat-litter has a small amount of "Urea" added, this is an old and common practice to persuade cats to use it for urination/fecal deposits.

Well, I've seen mushrooms grow from manure in nature, but I haven't seen too many coffee cups in nature.

Any ideas on rabbit food, not to successful finding a tek. Could it be used for a bulk substrate?

Have a safe journey through life,
Chef
