Teeny mushrooms on casings
    #3497381 - 12/14/04 01:15 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

My friend made a casing of coir/verm/calcium carbonate that has been putting up little tiny mushrooms for about three weeks. None of the mushrooms has grown more than 1cm tall. Should he remove these little mushrooms (they don't have black heads, so he doesn't know if they're aborts or not)? Or should he clean the whole thing off and recase? The mushrooms are Koh Samui strain. They're in a rubbermaid growchamber at 74f and about 90%rh. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is his first time growing (anything).

Thanks!

Remove mushrooms when then stop growing (sometimes they can be slow and this may take a fe days evaluation to know) or the cap opens up.

How thin is your substrate? Substrates of less theen 1-1.5 inches will produce small shrooms..but more of them usually counterbalancing that.

How much calc carb was used? Not as much needs to be used with coir as peat if it all. I use calc carb in my coir/verm casing though with no problems so I know that this isnt the issue if you used a small amount like I do (around 2% total volume)
