Neither is true.

Porn was always popular, now it's just more accesible because of the internet.

The internet didn't need porn to be huge, but that probably pushed it along in some ways.

the internet was popular enough before filesharing/porn sites were even that huge. i think for almost all internet users, porn was just an added bonus.

Whenever mankind comes out with a new invention, the first thing they think is "how could this improve pornograpgy." When they first made a camera, they were like, we could take pics of naked people! Then they were like "I bet there are other uses for this as well."

I heard figures (that I can't cite the source of) that said that about 70% of all websites are porn sites. Even if that's not true, I'd bet good money on 50%!
