What's the Purpose of Hay/Straw with Outdoor Cultivation?

I was reading over Moe's outdoor growing tek, and was clueless on what purpose the hay has with the outdoor cultivation of P. Cubensis. I'm concerned mainly because I don't have any sources that have hay or straw, and if its humidity that the hay is used for, I have mulch that I think would do the trick.

Could someone explain this to me, and possibly suggest a more readily availible substitute?

Think WHEAT STRAW :thumbup:

Besides "MULCH" could be about any organic fiber / husk / wood product, most of which shrooms don't do well in.

Where could I find Wheat Straw or Hay?

Livestock (cow / horse / pig / chicken) type Feed & Seed Stores for bales. Also look in local PHONE BOOK for Hay / Straw / Bales :thumbup:
