reusing jars
    #3438664 - 12/02/04 04:48 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

I think my spores died before mycelium could start growing due to a high incubation temperature. Would i be able to reuse the
substrate in the jars and resterilize them or do i have to start from the beginning?

How long has it been since inoculation? And what temperature did it get up to? You might be jumping the gun and might not even have to do anything but wait longer...

I would give it a few more days to be sure it's dead.

spores are pretty resilient, they can take temps over 105F without blinking an eye,
I gave a friend a dozen syringes that were stored in an outside shed for a couple
of years and the temps in there reached at least that through the hotter parts
of july and august, he's had no problem with them germinating...

Myc can handle temps up to 106F. and survive and spores can handle 122F. maybe slightly higher so don't sweat it. Now if it felt warm (98.6+) or very warm (122-160F.) then you could have definitely fried your spores so next time remember in this hobby patience is a virtue! Better luck next time bro.

oh i did have some growth..no the jars didn't get above 90+ so no worries ...well now i have them just siting on a dresser hanging out. so i might have a chance on my karo jars ,but 2 weeks seems kinda long.. well fuck it i still don't care its only time and effort..

well i dunno know for sure about the temps didn't have atemp gauge yet but my wbs seed jars are doing 86 easy hanging out in a tnt
