Everybody seems to struggle with what?s best to HEAT an incubator, or grow chamber with. Bottom line for control, efficiency, being waterproof & safety is a: WATERBED HEATER & CONTROL UNIT . You can buy all sorts at retail stores, on-line & thrift shops. They have dial or digital controls, a thermostatic heat sensor & heating mat.

Nice, very nice, I have been looking for alternatives too an aquarium heater. I believe this will exceed an aquaruium heater in it has more surface area, lower profile and better controlability. Thanks man for the tip.

Oh yeah, upright freezer, and better yet it has a lock. I will be looking for a shot freezer now. Glad I've got a truck.

For a smaller operation, I wonder if a mini-fridge with a high-quality heating pad placed at the bottom would take care of the tempurature?

Heating pad (like for sore back)is not safe in moist or wet conditions. Plant seedling heat pad would be better.

i used a heating pad in a minifridge until i put together a tub in tub setup. the only problems i noticed with the fridge is that it doesnt create a even temp throughout the whole thing, its MUCH hotter near the heating pad whereas the back may be 80f, also, there really isnt alot of space in those things, you can fit maybe 12 quart jars maximum, and thats if u really cram them in there in all directions.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." -Al Einstein

I was planning on doing Tub-to-Tub...I keep trying to talk myself out of it though. Leaving aquarium heaters alone in mostly un-attended spaces just isn't very exciting.
I think what I will end up doing is using a clear bottom tub and cutting a hole in the bottom for the heater to sit...won't have to get your hands wet trying to change the temperature, plus you can keep an eye on things such as water level a bit easier...just make sure your inner tub isn't opaque, or your substrate is in some way protected from light.
Not an innovation...picked that up from one of the billions of teks floating around.
I like your idea with the waterbed heater though..perhaps the two could be combined...
Peace AD
