liquid substance accumulating in my grain jars
    #3423297 - 11/29/04 02:10 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

i've done one set of cakes, and one set of casings (grain jars) completely, with no problems (except for the contaminated spore bought from sporebank i used on the cakes), anyways: i have three rye grain jars innoc's right now with the same strain as the grain jars before them, and these have started to develope a liquid substance in them.. it appears to be an oily liquid. someone said it was mushroom piss, but what causes the mycellium to produce this liquid stuff, and could this be a bad sign of things to come from these jars, or is it nothing to worry about?

the jars were properly sterelized, there's not contams and they have a hole in the lid sealed with a tyvek disk so they can breathe. this is the same exact setup as my earlier jars that's why i can't figure out what's going on

Does that hold the same for liquid cultures?

I have a few jars that look more flakey than the one that looked perfect. It's not really clumping together and, again is flakey like. Does this sound like contam?

i think in liquid cultures its very hard to tell if its a contam or myc. i have 4 right now all have fluffy white clouds in them. i think the only way to be sure is to try and colonize with them

doesn't sound like contams, they are usually some type of discoloration or liquids; something of that nature
