It's about time (Salem w/ VC!)
    #3382393 - 11/18/04 11:58 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

Warning: Excessive positive rant of success, emmense boring may occur.

Well. Early this morning Ray, Jared, and myself headed off for salem around 7 am.  Got there at 9:20 and called vc77 on his cell, an met up with him...he drove us to a parking lot, where we got out and circled around to one of his patches.  Was nice of him to show us and let us keep the few that we found, which was still prob 50 wet grams or so...

After he took us back and we left, we headed back to some other cities on the way thru, where after searching about 20 bark spots...ray and jared found a 4x4 foot approx. are with 260 pins, give or take 10-15. they got most the bigger dime/nickle sized ones, was only bout 20..and picked a few pins(not many, i felt wrong doing it obviously, but..i felt bad leaving behind the first ones we found on our own also..) The only reason i know how many pins there were is because i plopped down on my butt for a bit while they searched some more and counted them by sectors.  I was so tired/excited to get  going this morning i ran out w/o my cam, so..ull have to take my word for this till sunday or monday when we drive back there to check, hopefully frost doesnt get them(i promise to take pics then )

On the way back Ray found out he didnt have a inspection job he thought he had, so we ventured over to hendricks.  Well, this time we did wonderful(my last time i went for 2 hours, i walked right by them, left of them..)they were scattered and rarely bunched together, 3-6 inches between each..in this tall watercress-like weed. Got a few that had 2 inch diam caps(the reason i wasnt finding these before i think is cause i thought they were so much bigger, my perspective was off in the pics i saw) most were fairly small though.  So for all of you that told me you've heard hendricks has them, it does..=) this is a fairly large park so, I can say that,..right? =P anywho..all in all we only got about 120-170 grams wet each...but for a first day out and 3 cities, i guess it was a good adventure over all

Pics below of mine spread out, and my home made dessicator...used a plastic safeway cookie container, a square screen made from cardboard, thread, and masking tape[coincedentally on I5 I bought a mini thread kit earlier for these nice small scissors only, but found a good use for the thread, I couldnt find anything else that was meshed =(]

(just used webcam for pics so excuse the low res. plz)

My MacGuyver style dessicator:

again I apologize for the size. This is what happens after 25+ hours and prob double that in miles walked :P ~D

Congrats on your finds. Stringing that thread to make mesh looks like a hell of a lot of unnecessary work, haha. The dessicators turned out good though.

It's always best to go hunting with someone experienced like VC; it was nice of him to show you around. Did you take any habitat pics on the hunt?

Nah =( I forgot my digi at home cause I was in a rush, next time we go out, now that im so familiar, ill take pics of all the ones you can find in the wild in the florence area, as far as wild I mean places that arent near parks, roads, houses or any other man-made structure or facility. As well as that dense pinned patch we found, which hopefully in 3 days will be full of beautiful shiny babies.

LoL, it wasnt a 1 min job, but..it didnt take more then 5...works well, sorta cradles them..even the tiny guys that fall a lil, the second layer clings onto them. This proves if you have the will theres a way =P ~D

I got the notification but it seems that another mod got to it before I could. Good job mods

Like just said, use common sense when posting. And abide by the rules. No specific locations. Period. The most specific we will allow is park names, and I think that is streching it. Also, NEVER EVER talk about dealing on this site. That's not what we're about.

Are psilocybes considered "edible"?

I always thought there weren't.

Nice finds, although I wouldn't throw them in the dessicator that fresh. That's a bit for it to handle, try fan drying them for a day.

Peace

Congratulations on your big find!  Hopefully the season will last a little longer so you can hunt some, now that you know what you are looking for!
