Why do i need hydroton, or lava rock, or perlite to put in the bottom of my pmp? What would be wrong with using limestone driveway rocks, or pea gravel. Why does there need to be any rocks in there at all? Why cant i make a little stand out of carpenters clothe to hold cakes/casings out of the water. It seems like to me the only purpose rocks serve in the bottom of a pmp is to have something to lay things on, and to make it a pain in my ass to clean it.
discuss.

bubbling water is used to raise humidity, not rocks.

You misunderstand, the bubblewand only moves the CO2 out of the holes, the perlite/hydroton/geolite produces the humidity.

air bubbling through also helps with humidity. Perlite is great for humidity, though.

im sure that just having water in the bottom of the tub will make plenty humidity. im just going to try using water, and the air bubbler, and some sort of rack, i havnt decided what im going to use for that. im sure there is some way to make it less difficult to clean the pmp. i know that the geolite, lava rock method works well, but im trying to come up with something that would only require me to dump out the water, and add new water.

Perlite creates humidity under the concept of breaking up suspended water through its porousto create a fine light water vapor that hangs in the upwards flow of heated air. it would need to be some kind of screen/filter that breaks up the water. It shouldnt absorb moisture either. Find a material that would fit this description. Maybe some very fine wire mesh cloth.

if you want to do this right, and complete it with decent success, just buy the materials that are needed. lowe's, home depot, plant and garden centers all have perlite. If you don't have any of these stores near you, you can order it from one of our great sponsors, www.mycosupply.com

i know were to get perlite, geolite, lava rock, all that shit. i dont think you understand my point. i dont want to have to dump out a buncha crap from my pmp between every flush, clean and sterilize it, then put it back in the pmp. there is a simpler way of doing this, there has to be. all great things can be improved on.

polyfill its fine enough to filter micron sized matter. Dont have any experience with its water retaining properties though. If you just laid the polyfill in the bottum of a tub and added water it would seem like it would just "mat" and its porous structure would be lost. It would probably need to be suspended just above the water.

yeah your right, it would just mat to the bottom.
i guess the only way for me to avoid having to clean or change out rocks is to not use a pmp at all. ill get a fogger, or ultra sonic humidifier.

you don't need to change your perlite after every flush. just spray it with peroxide. also don't lay your cakes directly on the perlite, this can cause contams. place your cakes on small squares of foil and this will reduce contams, and keep your perlite nice and clean.

rumor has it perlite clogs up bubble stones/wands, has this been a problem in your experiences?

my friend doesn't even use a bubble stone or wand. He just fans by hand about 3-5 times a day. He said that he has had great success with this method.

yeah.. if you use a 1/10 h2o2 solution in the water (even less would work i'd say) you don't have to change hydroton/perlite/lava rock between uses...

Iodine works much better than h202 and no need to recharge with new every 3 days like h202. You dont have to clean perlite/lava rocks/geolite after every flush but i would clean it after each run though. Other that that id always go with iodine over h202 any day fisrt it only takes a few drops and not half a bottle and it dosne t break down like h202. I only ever use h2o2 in my dunk and misting water.

he he he...this is funny as hell. Ok well for one this seems to be tried about once a month and I hate to say this but you may want to do some experimenting. For one you get more humidity with lava, perlite or geolite then with plain water alone. Common don't ya think water chambers would have been the way long before there was a pod. It has to do with surface area there is plenty of info on it out there.
Now perlite, lava, and geolite will wick up the water once they are wet and won't get dry. I never could get pea gravel to work or fish tank rocks and such when I was making the pod they didn't have the same wicking ability to them.
Now the bubblers don't seem to add shit for humidity that isn't why there there. Purely for air exchange.
Then again I do agree with ya on everything can be improved and the pod is one. I left off at making some kind of liner that goes in it then the rocks. That way when cleaning is needed you lust lift out the liner insert and clean. You only need to clean it out between each new batch of cakes and I never added h202 to the water doing that would be smart but I never had a problem.
I have to admit that once I came up with Martha and got it running and saw what it could do I kind of forgot about my pod and doing improvements to it so I wish ya the best but the water thing was the first thing I tried.
Hey while your at it come up with a good heating method will ya I never got passed the heater in the geolite method and I think there has to be a much better method.

this isn't my method.. but it could work i suppose... smaller tub that sits next to pmp. this has one submerisable water heater set to max or whatever works.. i'm sure you'd have to hone it, or get one with an external sensor. PC fan sucking air out and right into the side of the pmp. hah.. if i ever get a job i shall test this theorum. the air would be moist and with a little h2o2 would be fairly sterile. you'd need a pair of poly filled holes on the lid of the small tub of course... just a highdea.
