PMP Question
    #3336714 - 11/09/04 10:03 AM (19 years, 5 months ago)

How does the PMP accomodate air exchange? The air stones will bring in fresh air, right, but how does the CO2 escape without fanning?

Airholes at the top covered w/ polyfill.

The piping brings in fresh O2, which then mixes with the CO2 (The heavier of the 2 gases), and then escapes out the top.
This has been covered numerous times in the PMP thread. Copied and pasted about 10 times throughout it. I suggest reading the entire thread.

Yes, I apologize for the question then. I read down to where they were bitching about patents and stopped

don't need the air hole for most PMPs. just need to have the lid loose. having an air pump with 2-3 times pod volume(it's actually more like 3-4 because of geolite space taken up) gives at least 1 complete air exchange each hour(some air is mixed and diluting 3 times is considered a complete flush in fluid system). It's like fanning every hour.

The lids on most rubbermaids aren't very air tight, is that all the looser I need it? But the CO2 is heavier, does the air entering in from the bottom force it out the top? What size tubs do you use for your fruiting?

Right. my lids get pushed up a bit from escaping air. Aquarium pumps can put out more than enough pressure to overcome most non sealing lids. You'll know if you have to make a hole on top by... listen to the pumps. If it starts making a more noise than when the lid is off, you need to make a hole or two. Pumps can handle it in most cases.

Size? well, that's upto you. Bigger the pod, bigger the pump. just follow that. You can calculate it easy. Think of quart as a liter. Tubs will indicate how many quarts, you need 2-3 times that in liters. Pumps are rated liters per hour or by aquarium size in gallons. Open the box and look at the instruction or on the back of packaging. Most dual outlets start at 120L per hour and goes upto 240 or more. Most single outlet starts at 20L/hr and goes upto 80.

Good luck

I think you are little too harsh. Ofcourse one should read the "PMP-tek" but about extra holes and where there are many different opinions.

I also had that question after reading some PMP-threads, do i need holes or not ? Cause there are different opnions.
Same about fanning and misting, some people still mist the PMP untill pinning starts. Some also fan the PMP.

In "THE PMP-thread" it is said that some advantages of the PMP are that no fanning and spraying is needed.....

So even after reading one can have these questions........

Good luck all!

Add a few polyfill filtered holes at the top and that's all you need. The pumps will mix the fresh air with the CO2 and it will be allowed to cycle through and out the PMP. It is all in there, I just didn't wanna read all the way through the thread, but I did.

LOL well the patent discussion was at the very beginning of the thread, last I checked the PmP discussion was 46 pages...which means he made it to about page two before giving up. Go back to the thread and read it cover to cover, the repetition gives a good review of the process and covers all the basis numerous times.
