PICS from this weekend (TONS of Weilii)
    #3331904 - 11/08/04 12:26 AM (19 years, 4 months ago)

Alright. Now I have time to update this post. I went hunting this weekend with Lizard King and a buddy of mine. LK and I had a feeling that this weekend might be the last good harvest of weilii before the end of the season, so we went crazy. We went where LK's new species grows and to two neighborhoods. LK found some of the biggest weilii I've ever seen. One had a cap about 5 inches across, and the other about 4. The stems were about 8 inches long and 3/4in thick. Insane mushrooms. Hopefuly LK will post pics.

I'm sad to say that we had our first enounter with one of the people of one of the neighborhoods. Some lady drove up and asked what we were doing, we told her walking around. She asked if we lived there and I told her I didn't but I have a good friend who lived in the neighborhood and asked if she knew him... She did so she seemed to be a little bit relieved. Then she told us that it looks weird to the people of the neighborhood to have people walking around picking mushrooms out of yards and technically it's trespassing without permission. She also said that people in the neighborhood were freaked out because there were some break ins over the summer. She said she basically wanted to warn us that people are on edge because she knew we didn't mean any harm and she didn't want to see some old lady call the cops on us. She was very nice about it.

Needless to say, I don't think I'll be picking in that neighborhood again. At least not without permission. I think I'm done weilii hunting for this season. I've got more than I need and I should probably quit while I'm ahead. No need for any trouble.

Anyways, here's pics from this weekend, hope you enjoy:

Here's some weird thick stemmed mushroom I found growing from a compost pile at school:

A cluster of some mushrooms growing from the same compost pile:

Some more Jack-o-Lantern mushrooms (they're everywhere right now):

Here's a very nice shot of some Psathyrella velutina growing on the soccer field:

We found this when we were hunting for LK's new species. I have no idea what this thing is:

And here's the haul of weilii. I think there were 200-300 mushrooms in this picture. LK picked about the same amount. It could have been double this amount if we weren't tired and the lady didn't come talk to us. None the less, a very nice haul, largest of the season:

guys here in georgia it is illegal to buy or sell spores therefore its a big risk trying to give them to people. I have lots of prints but im hesitant to send them to people and i think most of us weilii pickers feel the same way. because of fear from legal actions...

8.5 inch weilii from this weekend, i cant believe how long those stems are.

I can sort of relate to the trespassing deal.
A lot of times I end up going on someone else's property and I feel nervous about it a lot. It's usually worth the risk even though I try to avoid it if possible. Most of the time curiosity gets the best of me, and I go without thinking. People are starting to notice me more lately with the leaves making a CRUNCH noise on my every step.
Nice pics btw.

To all you great Weilii pickers... Stick all those prints in some envelopes with no return addy and send them to the FSRC. No chance of legal reperussions for you, and I'll be more than happy to redistribute them to the community via the FSRC.

Really

Gumby, i dont know what to say man. Great job. I was out for about 3 hours today and didnt find a damn thing. I have to try a new area. I do have a question also. I have looked online and i cant find the answer: will it have the same effect if i eat? will it just take longer to kick in?

It takes longer to kick in and it seems to not be quite as strong. I ate before I dosed on Friday and it took 2.5 hours(!) and a nice long walk for it to kick in.

damn. thanks for the quick reply. aight, i guess the weight has a lot to do with it to. one very large cap, 3 days dried is a lot smaller. i cant imagine that it weighs much. i'm gonna try my luck in gwinnett tomorrow and see how it goes. thanks gumby.
