tough day of hunting

Lots of walking around and looking but not too many finds at all.

Found some possible edibles, although I have never tried any of these species.

I identified this one as Hygrophorus gliocyclus or closely related species, anyone agree?

It grows on the ground under white pine, spore print white, the most slimy/slippery mushroom that i have ever touched. I could not hold onto these guys, coated in a extremely thick layer of slime. The caps are mostly white to yellowish, especially after peeling the slime layer off of the caps.

These look a lot like laccarias, Laccaria laccata I believe. Should be edible. I hear that they are good for drying and the stems should be tossed because they get too hard.

Some Russula probably.. snapped clean like chalk with no milk fluid. Didnt bring this back home.

I found some other things but couldnt get good pics so i just threw them in my bag. I only found about 6-7 species out there today, the season is close to pretty much over in my area. I had to use up the rest of my cam pics on scene pics from down in the swamp.. some drunk guy was up in those woods hunting deer and shooting off rounds so I wanted to avoid em, he could have mistaken me for a deer or something.

The swamp.

This little creek is a bitch to cross, got to go halfway via leaning tree and then jump for it. one of these days im gonna fall in that mess.

Hygrophorus gliocyclus is a good possibility, so is H. occidentalis. Given the habitat, we can probably decide for certain only with a microscope.

Your Laccarias certainly are, and L. laccata is a likely species.

The Russula guess could be. Not all Lactarius produce latex, especially if it's dry out. Overall it looks more like a Russula than a Lactarius to me.

Nice photos.

Happy mushrooming!

Thanks, it was fun at least to be out.
I agree on the hygrophorus.. I am expecting a book on the genus hygrophurus, should be a good and helpful addition to the collection.
