Ultra White Fuzz
    #3329662 - 11/07/04 05:26 AM (19 years, 4 months ago)

Ok, So ive been growing koh sumai for a few days now, 3-5 days I think. And the white has been steadily growing. Theres some really tiny while balls appeared, about 1mm to 1/1/2mm big, are these 'pins'? Also in some areas theres some really fine fuzzy looking white stuff. Is this some kind of contamination?

sorry, no dig camera. the fuzz is like a mm or two wide in places and its just like very fine cotton wool, or white candy floss. Defi looks diferent from the rest of the whitness throughout the cake

The tiny white balls are probably Hyphal knots/primordia.

The white fuzzy stuff could be contams or just fluffy mycelium.Hard to determine without a pic.

I think the white fuzz is the cobweb contam it mentions, theres only a small patch though.  Can this turn into a problem?

Well theres lots of those white dots too which i think is definitly primordia as I just seen a pic of primordia in another thread, does that mean I'm gonna get a big flush?

no but it does raise the possibilities if you keep good care of them

if you dont they will all/most abort and and then you dont have a big flush at all

probably just rhyzomorphic spikes. if it's not the same white as the other mycelium you have, you can start to worry. look for some pictures. cobweb mold is more grey-ish than mycelium and not as thick... just slightly dingy looking.

Thanks, I'll wait and see if it gets any bigger, so I can be more sure of what it is. But it is greyer than the mycelium.

Ok, ive seen more clearer pics of cobweb and i think thats deinitely what it is. What should I do? I read somewhere something about using h2o2 but i dont have that, I dont even know what it is....

Should I try raising the temperature, watering less and changing the air more often?

well the fuzz has gone   I wonder if it was because I changed the conditions or if it was because the mycelium had a minor turf war with the cobweb and won hehe

the small white blobs are growing now and have some brown spots at the top. there must be between 50 and 100 of them

Does it look anything like this pic

Because I have this going on right now and can't seem to find out if it's cobweb or not. Any help would be awesomely appreciated!

I believe cobweb is very agressive in growth, it can take over your sub in just a few days. So if it's taking over your sub really slow I don't think it's cobweb. Also  lot's of fae will help against cobweb. H202 will kill it but it also will harm your mycelium.

It's been less than two days since this has come about. Ever since I put it in direct sunlight and taken the lid off, it's started to go down, especially on the stalks of the mushroom. I'll try to put up a better looking picture.

This is from a different angle. But I'm
Having trouble making the distinction between cobweb and mycelium
