Casing Contams
    #330632 - 05/31/01 11:35 AM (22 years, 9 months ago)

I have been casing for a while and I always lose about 50% of them to forest green mold or cobweb. Everything is clean and the only answer I can think of is my air exchange. I just use a fish tank pump with the rubber tubing and put it through a hole in the terrarium. The mold always hits after the casing is almost done colonizing and ready to fruit. Sould I filter the air somehow? any help would be great. thanks.

Josh

yea... filter it..... the least you could do is put a sock around the pump so the air gets drawn through the sock and a little tiny bit of contams will not pass... and itll make your pump quieter..... but you should really make a filter box if your serious about it...

In my experience in most cases the casing contaminates, because the SUBSTRATE is contaminated.
I would advice that you check your sterile technique while preparing the substrate and search for a possible contamination problem at this stage.

i tend to disagree. the green monster (IMHO) seems to occur the most when there is not enough air exchange. i addition to your pump i would fan.

i leave my pumps on the floor and the floor ait clean. the only time i have ever gotten hit withthe big green guy is when i havent done enough air exchanges.

mushrmtragic.. I've never seen the green stuff go from the top down. Only seen it work it's way up from the substrate. Work on better sterility in your substrate.

Try casing with Gro Brick coco fiber. I just purchaed a couple nice air pumps (bubblers) for about $20 each that have filters built in to them.
