Im nowhere near an expert on the subject of shrooms, but I believe it is when you've picked all the shrooms off ur cake, and then u dunk it in water, and leave it there for 12-24 hrs and put it in the fridge. This will revamp the cake for another use (flush)

Dunking is when you put colonized cakes in water for 12 to 24 hours. This replaces moisture that has been lost, which makes more mushrooms or something.

It makes the cake's next flush bigger by replacing the water lost by the shrooms that grew from the first flush. They get bigger and are often more mushrooms.

You cpould should also dunk BEFORE the first grow/flush.
After the mycelium has colonized your jar, you can fill it with water and leave it 12-24 hours. So the cake is soaked again, the mycelium has been "drinking" of the water you put in initially.
Putting the cakes in the fridge is not dunking but "cold-shocking", when temperature drops in autumn thats the signal for mushrooms to fruit. So then you are making it like autumn for the mushrooms..
I dont have experience with dunking but the people who have say it increases your yield.
Good luck, MF

Silven's Dunking Tek
1) Open jar.
2) Very carefully remove the dry verm layer, making sure not to hurt the mycelium underneath. (some dry verm won't matter, the water will remove it)
3) Slowly add water, and your cake will most likely begin to float in the jar. Fill it up until there is enough water to fully submerge the cake.
4) Sterilize a sewing needle or something similar and stick it in the middle of the top of the cake, leaving about half an inch of the pin sticking out of the cake.
5) Put the lid on. The pin will then hold the cake fully submerged under water.
6) Put in the refridgerator to cold shock if you're birthing as a cake. Don't put it in the fridge if you are planning on casing.
7) If not casing, after 24 hours remove from fridge, empty excess water from the jar.
8) Pre-heat oven to 250 degrees and put an oven pan with verm on it in the 250 degree pre-heated oven for 10 minutes.
9) Remove verm from the oven, allow to cool to room temperature (only takes a few minutes)
10) Remove cake from jar, very carefully roll the cake in the dry vermiculite.
11) Mist your cakes with a spray bottle until the vermiculite is moist.
12) Birth in your fruiting chamber and wait for pins

Hey Silven, i had quick question would you recommend fine verm or just the medium grade. also pin was just pushed all the way in the cake when i put the cap of the jar on, should i use a thicker pin, i have a pretty thin one. thanks for the advice man.

The finest verm is not that good I have read, cause substrate cant breath that well. Anyway I would go for the medium sized........

just use a needles from the syringes. They have a plastic fitting that keeps from going in all the way.
I also use very fine verm to double case and also in the casing mix. Seems to work fine for me.

It's actually double end casing. It means verm(or casing mix) on top and bottom of the cake. It's used for people who don't want to roll their cakes. If you roll the cake, it's one step above double end casing.
Good luck

Hi Sam thanks for xplaining but does this mean that one uses PF cake as substrate and before casing it putting a casing mix on top and bottom of it? Or is it casing the PF Cake with the casing mix on top and bottom in the case with the cake substrate in between?

it's not casing per se. It's growing cakes. Just like rolling... But double end casing is just a method to give the cake an alternate source of water. Let me see if I have a pic... if not, I'll take a picture for ya. Sam Okay, this isn't a very good cake, but it shows double ended casing. A fuzzy picture... but hope you get the idea..

Thank you Sam!
Amazing cakes!
So it is like a (dunked?) cake with casing mix under it and on top of it?
Gives better yield then rolling them? Or what other could be the reason not to roll them but double case them?
Thanks again!!
